DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE   /   Where Alice in Wonderland Meets Prison

A Musical.

Down The Rabbit Hole is the journey of the artist (Liza Jessie Peterson) working and performing in prison (ala the rabbit hole) for 15 years. The story is told using poetry, prose and music, Taking the audience on the artist’s passionate journey towards stardom, and unwittingly finding herself tumbling down the rabbit hole, teaching, performing and counseling in prison for well over a decade. It is a funny and heartfelt musical about an artist getting more recognition, love, and visibility in prison than in mainstream outlets and how she unwittingly discovered purpose… bringing light into dark places. American Keloids love sonata is a segment within Down The Rabbit Hole where an actual prison letter from an inmate is read (by various guest actors). Liza responds to the letter with a passionate poetic monologue signaling hope, love and redemption. This dialogue between inmate and Liza is underscored with rich blues music heightening the enormity of pathos.

Down The Rabbit Hole opens with an excerpt from The Peculiar Patriot ™ because it was during Liza’s 15 year journey in “the rabbit hole” that her nationally acclaimed one woman play The Peculiar Patriot ™ was born and toured in over 28 prisons throughout the United States (see tThe Peculiar Patriot ™ Prison Tour History for details).

Her band, Ghetto Orchestra, helps narrate this provocative story with blues, soul, funk and hip hop.
